Before blogs and the term blogger were widespread, an online diarist, Erin Venema, coined the term “escribitionist” to describe a person who writes of personal experiences, like a journal or diary, and publishes them on the web as opposed to print. The term “weblogs” was used to refer to a variety of writing, not necessarily personal, so she coined the term to differentiate her personal experiences, thoughts, and reflections. The word comes from a combination of the English word “exhibitionist” and the Spanish word “escribir,” meaning “to write.”
